Watching a Basketball Game, Live

Monday, May 7, 2012
BMEG finally won last night on their seventh game against TALK n TEXT. I do not follow PBA games that much but BMEG is my team too, not because it is Bon's team, but because I have a crush on James Yap. Anyway, ever since the Finals started, we have been waiting for BMEG to win. Last Friday, we thought it was going to be THE GAME, and I think the audience even thought so, too, because Araneta seemed quite packed and there were loads of celebrities watching. A patient of mine, last Satuday, is obviously a BMEG fan. Before I called him to sit on the chair, he accepted a call and I heard him saying: "Nakita mo si James Yap? Pa-autograph ka, tapos tanong mo kung mananalo na sila sa Sunday?" (You saw James Yap? Get his autograph and then ask him if they're going to win this Sunday?). Bon said they weren't going to win anymore. Last Friday he said that they had to win the game because if they don't, they'd never win on Sunday --- but they did.

The game was crazy -- fun to watch and Bon was going wild. He was already sad and accepting defeat when the foul was called and a wonderful OVERTIME was won. He was screaming and jumping all around and while he was going ballistic, I was quietly praying that BMEG would win so that all his shouting would not go to waste. Bon (me included) was happy that his team won. We didn't get to watch it live, like we planned to, but it was okay...

Speaking of watching PBA games live, ever since I could remember, Bon had wanted to watch a PBA game live. We never found people that would go with us, and we never really had the opportunity, but during the PBA semi-finals, a friend or ours gave us tickets to watch the game, and we finally did it. It wasn't a BMEG game, but it was a TALK n TEXT vs BARAKO BULL game --- so I knew some people (like Fonacier and Alapag). We, unfortunately, had to travel to Ynares in Antipolo for it, but to make the most out of the trip --- we made sure to stop by the side street stalls to buy cashew nuts, barquillos and suman.

Watching the game was a different experience. It didn't have the editing and close-up shots that televised games have, but it was nice. It didn't seem like a real game, too, it kinda felt like a practice game, but maybe because there weren't so many people watching and going crazy. It’s also not fun to have to look at the screen on top, just to see the instant replays, but I wouldn’t exactly say that it was bad because I’d love to try it again, maybe for a UAAP game, this time. (Yes, even though my sisters attend the UAAP basketball games to support their schools --- ADMU and DLSU, I have never been to a game with them, so I don’t know how exciting it is.
Maybe next time… So, did you watch the BMEG vs TALK n TEXT game last night or did you have something more important to do?

I'm not into PBA, either. (I don't understand the game at all. Hahaha!!!) But learning just a while ago from my Dad that BMEG is the old-Purefoods, I feel like jumping in happiness too! ...all because of Patrimonio -- my super crush back then :)) Hahaha

My husband and I have watched a few PBA games, but it's tough trying to get tickets pag finals (lalo na pag Ginebra!). When we get tickets to games we're not particularly invested in, we each pick a team and just make a bet to make it interesting. Hehe

UAAP games are awesome, ibang klase ang energy. I think I teared up when we finally won a championship. The reason I was a cheerdancer in college was so I wouldn't have to stress over getting tickets to the games. Haha. And dancing in front of a packed Araneta during ADMU-DLSU finals is one of the best experiences ever. (I've been meaning to do a blog post about this for years, never lang natutuloy!)

Oh, I watched the game with my husband too! Though, we didn't catch it live as well. We're huge BMEG fans but we gave up during the last 4 minutes of the game thinking they'll never win but we're literally jumping and almost cried when Bowles got those two free throws in at the final few seconds. You should have heard me during that night - you might have washed my mouth with soap as I might have shouted "a few" foul words here and there. =) Great game, wasn't it? All PBA finals should be like that!

  1. @Dai Ning Li - Oh my! did you see Patrimonio going crazy last Sunday? He was so cute kaya! Balding a bit, but a true lover of his team, kaya it was really nice.

@Tisha - Grabe! We called Tickenet to try to buy tickets pero wala plang online reservation or phone reservations! Dapat pila, kaasar! Pero it's okay... it was still fun naman to watch kahit sa TV. Plus, BMEG won!

I've always wanted to watch a DLSU-ATENEO game, just to join in with the fun! One time my Korean student gave me three tickets to a game that my sisters did not have tickets to and I felt so bad for them, so I just gave it to them. I was their driver nlang...

@mae - Amazing final game tlaga! What a way to end it with the overtime pa tlaga! For me, yun ang mga tipong games to remember! Better pa than a 3-point buzzer beater! Hahahahaha! Or maybe not!
